BITS AND BYTES

Cleveland Nursing Forum & University of Teesside Centre for Practice Development Joint Conference 2000

The above conference recently held at the Samsung Centre, Wynyard was attended by myself to present a poster demonstrating the findings of a recent audit undertaken by the Health Advisers in Middlesbrough General Hospital.

The conference "Shaping the future:Pacing the change" was an exteremely informative event. The topics presented included the Modernisation Agenda, Shared Governance, Effective Leadership, and Multi-agency collaboration. In addition to this, lecturers from the School of Health discussed some of the preliminary findings from their ongoing three year research study into sex education across a selection of schools within the region, which has so far proved very interesting.

Once again it was a valuable opportunity to network, and with the help of the poster, further awareness was created of the GUM Departments activities.

Genitourinary medicine Health Adviser at Practice Nurse Forum

Practice nurses in Ripon, Richmond, Catterick, Dishforth, Thirsk and Northallerton meet regularly to discuss matters of mutual interest. We were invited to explain issues about sexual health at one of their meetings. On 9th November 2000, Lois and Chris attended the Dales Practice Nurse Group Meeting at Catterick Village Health Centre to give a presentation about the work of our GUM clinic. Closer links were forged with our local practice nurses which we are sure will be of future benefit to our service In particular, referral pathways were explored.
